About Janet Bothne
Address and work:
Artist Introduction
Janet Bothne has been passionate about the power or color throughout her life. While spending many of her early years as a realist, she used the various subject matter all as an excuse to explore color relationships. In 2003 she had the epiphany that color should simply be the subject matter.“I see color akin to music. It’s no coincidence they both can be described in terms such as soft, loud or bright – they have keys and tones. I experience muted color as chords and saturated color as crescendo. With a variety of music as my muse, and the limitless possibilities pigment presents, I seek to compose visual rhythms, harmonic or discordant, but all with an underlying sense of life and electricity. To put it simply, music is color for the ears, and color is music for the eyes.” Born near Boston, Bothne has studied art at the University of MA at Amherst, The Fuller Museum - MA, UCLA, and Brentwood Art Center, CA. She relocated to the Los Angeles area in 1996 and married her computer skills with her artist’s eye working as a graphic designer, but her love of painting increasingly nagged. She gave up her job to focus on painting full-time in 2001. Since that time she has exhibited in numerous shows in venues such as the Los Angeles County Museum’s Sales & Rental Gallery & The Santa Monica Art Museum and her collectors span across the U.S. & abroad. She now lives in New Mexico and enjoys painting in the gorgeous light the vast sky there provides.
